BigBarn

BigBarn is the UK’s No.1 local food website where you can purchase products from over 500 artisan, specialist and local food outlets.

The project:

Since BigBarn was founded nearly 20 years ago, their website has been through many revisions. Their website was looking dated and becoming increasingly difficult to manage. They also required a bespoke map to be built showing of their local food shops.

The results:

The new website required an effective system for BigBarn to manage their thousands of members, alongside each member being able to update their own information and process any orders received from the Marketplace. Our first step was to build a custom web application to manage the entire website. This enables BigBarn to manage every aspect of the website, including the ability to update members, run reports, import/export data and email members.

The next step was to design and build a responsive website featuring the thousands of producers and products available to buy online.

As a company focused on good food from local sources, an easy-to-use map was essential. Using Google Maps API we delivered a bespoke map featuring their 8,000 producers with various filters and search tools, making a great resource for finding local food shops. This map automatically pinpoints the user’s location, instantly displaying their local area. This map can easily be embedded by partners of BigBarn on their websites with the widget or WordPress plugin.

We continue to work very closely with BigBarn to continue the evolution of their website and web application, adding new features and enhancements.
